Dante inscribed above his Inferno: Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. Centuries later, Rodin gave that threshold form. For thirty-seven years he sculpted, erased, resurrected — until bronze itself seemed to breathe. From that furnace emerged The Thinker, The Kiss, The Shades: fragments of humanity caught between ruin and rapture.

Rodin’s gates are never still; they exhale. Shadows knot into muscle, flames persist in metal — each seam smoldering with desire that refuses extinction. They do not guard hell; they are its breath.

To carry this phrase is to inherit both truths: that fire endures beneath art’s surface, and that torment, when touched by vision, becomes elegy.
